“ We’re all a little weird, and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up in a mutual weirdness and call it love.”
“ Have patience with all things, but chiefly have patience with yourself. Do not lose courage in considering your own imperfections but instantly set about remedying them — every day begin the task anew.”
Russell Brand- "For Amy"
Russell Brand? His humor and mine tend to flail at one another in discord. But this post about Amy Winehouse broke my heart.
I admired Amy’s incredible voice and her unbelievable talent, yet wasn’t truly a fan as I probably should have been. Personally, I wanted her to be left alone; her struggles were so public it made me sick. The point was reached wherein I couldn’t listen to her music because all that would come to mind were the countless headlines my eyes had slid past in numerous publications; mostly, of course, concerning her addictions. It was depressing and I’m sure most of the world feared this end for her would come, and hoped it wouldn’t.
It seems the most talented, inspiring and charismatic artists & musicians tend to have to fight the worst demons. When a person is granted a secret portal into the beautiful, yet terrifying emotional World… Does an Evil travel with them? Can there be someone with so much talent, much like Mozart, Winehouse, Cobain, Joplin, Morrison, Hendrix, etc… Can such a being exist without also having to ride the back of a beast? Whatever the beast may be…

Inspire
Passion is the greatest gift of all. To pursue a craft in the arts is noble, but to pursue passion for passion’s sake is the destination. If you love something, practicing should be no chore, the smallest gig could be the biggest, and others will love it too. Love inspires love. Happiness comes from within and goes without. Trying to let others in on your inner passion, to inspire someone with how much you love, I believe, is the goal of the artist. As Keith Richards said, “every artist wants ‘He Passed It On’ on his gravestone.” (paraphrased there a tad bit from an old Rolling Stone interview).
“For all actors know that truly natural acting is rejected by the audience. Although people are better equipped to judge acting than any other art, the hypocrisy of ‘sincerity’ prevents them from admitting that they too are always acting some part of their own invention. To be a successful actor, then, it is necessary to add some eccentricities and mystery to naturalness so that the audience can admire and puzzle over something different from itself.”
